WordPress got stuck in maintenance mode after failed theme update

WordPress got stuck in maintenance mode after failed theme updateAfter updating an already installed WordPress theme, both the website and the backend show this error message:

“Briefly unavailable for scheduled maintenance. Check back in a minute.”

Now have a look in the root web folder of that website. There should be a file called .maintenance. Renaming this file or deleting it entirely should disable the maintenance mode.

I’d recommend doing a manual update if that occurs though…

    Hi Andreas

Thanks for the resource! Only disabling or deleting the .maintenance file is indeed only half of the work. There’s a reason why this WordPress issue occurs. Therefore, it’s a good habit to update all WordPress files as described in the WordPress codex.
